Federal government orders the combination of NIN and ATM into one card - get yours free of charge

The Federal Government has approved a new policy that will allow Nigerians to get their National Identity Number (NIN) card and bank card in one. The new policy, which was announced by Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Pantami, will make it easier for Nigerians to access government services and make payments.

Under the new policy, Nigerians can request their banks to issue them with a multipurpose debit card that doubles as a NIN card. The card will be free of charge and will be available from all commercial banks in Nigeria.

Pantami said that the new policy was in response to the growing demand for NIN cards from Nigerians. He said that the NIMC Act 2007 only mandates Nigerians to have a NIN, not a NIN card. However, he said that many Nigerians, particularly those living in rural communities, have been requesting for NIN cards.

To make it easier for Nigerians to get NIN cards, NIMC partnered with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to issue multipurpose debit cards that double as NIN cards. The cards will be issued by commercial banks and will be free of charge.

To apply for a multipurpose debit card, Nigerians will need to visit their bank and provide their NIN. The bank will then verify the NIN with NIMC and, if the NIN is valid, the bank will issue the card.

The multipurpose debit card will be a valuable tool for Nigerians. It will allow them to access government services, make payments, and travel without having to carry multiple cards.

The new policy is a welcome development for Nigerians. It will make it easier for Nigerians to access government services and make payments. It will also help to reduce the number of fake NIN cards in circulation.
